Ashna Jagtiani is an Assistant Epidemiologist in the Department of Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences at the Rollins School of Public Health, a role she began in 2023. She holds a Master of Public Health in Global Epidemiology from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Mumbai, India. Ashna brings a unique blend of clinical and research expertise to her current role, having coordinated and led research projects across diverse settings, including rural, low-resource, and tribal communities in the U.S., rural India, and West Africa. She is passionate about data-driven health interventions and has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and national conferences.
Research Interests:
- Substance Use Prevention: Investigating the outcomes and underlying risk and protective factors associated with substance use to inform public health strategies focused on prevention, harm reduction, and improving health across adolescent and adult populations.
- Mental Health: Analyzing psychological factors such as anxiety and depression in the context of substance use, chronic pain, and sleep, with attention to the influence of socioeconomic determinants.
- Methodological Advancements: Integrating advanced statistical techniques such as longitudinal modeling, mixed-method approaches, causal inference, and data visualization with community-engaged efforts and ethical use of data in underserved and global health contexts to generate actionable insights.
